You gotta try out this great lunch spot in Hickory. They got a little mad scientist in 'em. I like that.
The North Hickory Market
When I moved from the inner city of Pittsburgh 2 - no! - 3 years ago now. My wife whom I met coping off her paper in High School, now married for 20 years, were looking forward to the ‘southern’ cooking.
Living in the inner city we had some of the best food and we took it for granted.
After the move to Hickory we dove deep into checking out local restaurants in our area. Searching for a local pizza place that we can call our ‘default’ place to eat.
With our 3 teenage boys and all the sports they play, grabbing a couple pizzas on the way home was just what we did. It was our default. We still are on the look out for great pizza actually. If you know any, we are willing to drive, comment here and let me know.
We haven’t found our default pizza place but,
what I have found is a very good lunch spot.
I saw you there!
The North Hickory Market is a place that when people ask if I want to go to lunch. It’s become the place I recommend the most going to.
You know me, I love surrounding myself with people that have a little #fortheloveofthegame with what they do.
#fortheloveofthegame - an undeniable love for something.
It’s clear the North Hickory Market has that.
My family and I were told to try the Yellow deli and we did.
Why do I bring this up?
When I picked my wife up for lunch we headed to the North Hickory Market. My wife and I were in line to order and one of the workers came up to me, “Where you at Yellow deli the other day? I saw you there!”
“Yes, sir.” I replied.
We then talked about the sandwiches at the Yellow Deli we had and what we liked and disliked. It was a genuine conversation about things we were passionate about it.
It all began to come together.
Not only was the North Hickory Market a good place to eat but a place that is passionate about what they are doing.
Mad Scientist
North Hickory Market has a little mad scientist in them.
I like that.
In day to day life we tend to take the easy road.
The path of least resistance.
We tend to “play the hits.” And just the hits.
Ever go to your favorite band’s tour after they release a new album?
You listen to the new album on what feels like on repeat for months and then they play a song or two from it?
They just go back to the hits.
Yup, just compared concerts to food.
Trying different sandwiches and meals and not doing the same thing over and over again. Sure, somethings will work and others won’t but, being able to try new things and have a passion for them.
If you think this isn’t a big deal to you, then that explains the 10,000 fast food places popping up in our area.
The same ol’ same ol’…
I want a little mad scientist back there making my food.
For me
Yup, I can hear you now - it’s expensive, Chris.
Your right but you know…
The amount of networking meetings, appointments, and 1 to 1’s I do every week with other business owners tend to say the same thing when talking about the cost of their services.
“Yeah but, the quality you get with… :::insert whatever they are selling here:::”
Funny, it’s easy for others to say that but, when the mirror is turned back on them “it’s expensive” has a different meaning?
Seeing value in themselves but not in others - that’s a whole other conversation.
I have no problem paying for lunch from the North Hickory Market.
For me - I pay with a smile on my face.
Go ahead, go back through the fast food drive through and have a meal that isn’t memorable.
Go ahead, have the same ol’ same ol’ and I get it.
Play the hits.
Sometimes that warm blanket of fast food is nice for lunch.
Just know that when you ask me where I want to go for a lunch appointment.
One of the places I’m going to suggest is The North Hickory Market.
If you haven’t yet, I would recommend it - obviously.
I recommend reaching out to a friend, or make an appointment, and go have lunch with a buddy of yours or any excuse to check out the North Hickory Market.

P.S. Pop Tarts
This photo of the North Hickory Market pop tart made me think of the pop tart event we did last year in Downtown Hickory. Where we featured small business owners and how they ate their pop tarts!
I love sharing these old pop tart videos:
